A splitter nozzle is installed directly at a pressure discharge outlet to divert a portion of the pump flow and reduce it to ambient pressure. The size of the diverting passage is smoothly adjustable so that the volume of medium diverted can be selected from a wide range. The function can be compared to that of an adjustable nozzle.
